Our unique numbers play a big role if you’re selling music online or in store
If you’re looking to sell online via iTunes and Amazon, or in physical outlets, and need barcodes on your vinyl or CDs, you may have been asked to provide Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs), Universal Product Codes (UPCs) or EANs.
These are all unique identification numbers – the ones you’ll see not only on vinyl and CD barcodes but on almost every product you can buy. These numbers come from us – we’re part of the global GS1 organisation that manages the barcode standards and allocates the numbers.
Adding these to your music means the music industry can uniquely track your sales – cutting down on piracy and making sure you get all royalties to which you’re entitled. This in turn benefits the music industry and allows for more opportunities within it for new, emerging and successful artists.
How we can help you with barcodes for music?
We can provide you with unique numbers and barcodes for your music – helping you identify your products and manage your sales. If you just want to trade online through digital downloads, the numbers alone will do. But we can also supply you with barcodes for CDs and vinyl too.
Your options for barcodes for your music
GS1 UK is a not-for-profit membership organisation. We don’t sell you our unique numbers, but offer annual licences.
For the music industry, there are a couple options, starting from just £25 a year.
- 1 x GTIN-13 licence for £25 per year
- 2 x GTIN-13 licence for £50 per year
- 3 x GTIN-13 licence for £75 per year
All numbers come with EPS images of your barcodes. Just complete this form to apply for your number(s).
Membership fees are dependent on turnover, and you’ll receive an annual licence for at least 1,000 GTINs (or barcode numbers).
