Connecting and collaborating with the retail sector

Our retail team are industry specialists with exceptional networks and insight. The team act as consultants to support UK retail through challenges and to maximise opportunities, using our GS1 standards and services. 

Our neutrality and impartiality ensures we can respond to trends, focus our activities on industry priorities, and facilitate collaboration within the sector.

The team does this through engagement with a broad base of industry stakeholders, including - trade associations, key industry commentators, solution providers, environmental organisations and different member businesses. 

GS1 Global – made up of 115 member organisations – provides unparalleled access to global retail standards and service innovation. This perspective enables GS1 UK to add real value to our members and industry collaborators.

Head of retail

Alice recognises the challenges and opportunities facing the retail sector. 

She has spent her career working with - and for - many of UK retail’s biggest operators; from store management roles at Waitrose & Partners, to retail consultancy at Deloitte, in India for M&S, and in senior roles within M&S.com and Specsavers. Alice’s career has been shaped by digital transformation and influenced by her need to work for brands that have environmental values which align with her own.

As head of retail for GS1 UK Alice is driving a clear agenda for the informed and protected consumer – specifically in the areas of sustainability, traceability and accelerating digitisation in retail.

As a neutral not for profit organisation Alice recognises the unique role that GS1 UK can play in bringing the retail sector together to do good for customers. She looks forward to hearing from you, and working with you to use GS1 standards and services to all our advantage.

Engagement manager

I joined GS1 UK in  2014 and am responsible for developing new relationships with grocery retailers, with whom GS1 UK are not currently in active dialogue. My focus is on understanding the needs of this sector and using the insight to propose where GS1 standards and solutions can add value right through to the consumer. 

Before joining GS1 UK, I was with Best Buy, the US electronics retailer managing direct sourced product into Europe from Asia. The majority of my career has been with Sainsbury’s in a variety of supply chain roles covering domestic logistics and global imports.

Sophie Fuller Sophie Fuller

Engagement manager

I am responsible for building collaborative relationships across retail, specialising in grocery and department stores with the aim of ensuring our standards are aligned with the needs of industry whilst adding value to our members by increasing awareness and encouraging standards adoption.

Before arriving at GS1 UK, my career included working for John Lewis & Partners and Selfridges. Having enjoyed working as a retail manager for five years, my passion for improving the way retail works led me to hold engagement positions on transformation projects across HR, Supply Chain and Customer Experience. 

Outside of work my interests include studying wine (WSET3 Award in Wines) and being part of a baking club.
